The Best Christmas Gift

Merry Christmas!  Today was the day we finally got to tell my family the news.  Each year Courtney and I give my mom a photo album filled with pictures and memories from that year.  My family gave up giving Christmas gifts to each other a long time ago, so this is the only gift exchanging we do.  It is pretty special for my mom, but every year we threaten to stop doing it because it takes so much time!

Anyway, last year we gave my mom her album and then gave my dad a small gift as well.  In May of 2012, my parents would celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.  Courtney and I decided to send them on a trip to San Antonio.  Inside my dad's gift bag was a small strip of paper with the first line to a 40 line poem.  When he opened his gift last Christmas, he had no idea what the strip of paper meant and we wouldn't tell them.  We proceeded to give them a new line each day for the next 40 days (although it only took them about 20 days to figure it out).

So that leads me back to today.  After mom opened her album, I handed dad his small gift bag.  Inside I had placed a similar slip of paper that said "last year it was 40 days, this year it's 40 weeks."  I thought my dad would get it right away, but here's how it happened...

It's amazing to me that we were able to surprise both sides of our families and do it as we had planned to.  It was fun keeping the big secret between Seth and I for a little bit, but I am so relieved that our families know now!

Besides the Fab Five girls, which I will see tomorrow morning, we will wait until the first ultrasound (this coming Friday) to tell our close friends.
